Colosseum - Petra
So you want to have an adventure?

|
We`re off to Jordan in the Middle-East in search of the elusive city of Petra. Petra was lost for hundreds of years hidden away between the very rocks it was carved from.
No doubt that Petra earned its place on the list of the new 7 world wonders. A small gorge, being the only entrance, meanders through the cliffs deep into the mountains. After a final turn you end up face to face with the immense and elaborate Treasury. This famous structure was used as a setting for the movie `Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade`.
In ancient times Petra controlled many of the trade routes in the area and thus was visited a lot by nomads. Doesn`t it sound like a good plan to visit Petra as modern day nomads?
The standard rules as mentioned in the FAQ apply.

Size doesn`t matter!
To increase the fun we`ll take cars in the smallest category: i.e less than 1 liter. You can go bigger, but that`s really too easy (and obviously you`re in the more expensive category). You can tweak your car a bit, but apart from that we`ll show that a 15 year old car can bring you a lot of adventure. We don`t fix the route and we don`t hold your hands, it"s your adventure and you decide how to get to Petra.
Main elements of your adventure are:
- Unknown mountain ranges
- Desert dust
- New friends
- Getting stuck
- Wonders, known and unknown
- Lots of fun
- Surprised locals
- Doing good by supporting a charity.
The Dutch group starts from the Netherlands to get to the Colosseum in Rome. Here the international teams meet up so we can all head of to Turkey. What will be your route? A boat trip from Italy to Albania or Greece? Or do you prefer the Eastern-Europe route and tick the box on countries not on your list yet? Kosovo and Macedonia aren"t around for that long yet, so it might be a first.

Every team drives unsupported, but of course the spirit of the adventure is to help each other out. Via the online forum and at the intro meeting you get in touch with other teams to create a joint strategy and route. Along the way The 7 Adventures will arrange for meeting points on probable routes. For example, just before the border with Syria we`ll meet up and use the opportunity to fix up the cars before heading on: direction desert!
In Syria the trees get scarcer and the view changes, more rocks and sand in wider landscapes. Damascus is obviously a main attraction but how you get there is your decision, via the highway, the scenic routes or even Lebanon is for you to decide.

Amman, capital of Jordan, is another good city to make a pitstop. From here you can take the Kings Highway or the more eastern route. Getting your feet wet in the Dead Sea or visiting a desert castle. You are in control and we`ll catch up at Petra from where we move on to yet another stunning movie decor: Wadi Rum. It"s a `grande finale` in a Star Wars landscape. The playground of Lawrence of Arabia, rounding up his army here for his attack on the Ottoman Empire. Teaming up here is important, because getting stuck and getting lost are very real options. Bizarre rock formations and unpaved desert tracks make this our own movie set, the night sky blanketing us with more stars than you"ve ever seen.
All the dust and dirt is washed off in the Red Sea at Aqaba where we await the stragglers.
